2016 marks the 400 years of the legacy of Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyel. To commemorate and pay tribute to the Zhabdrung, Her Majesty Gyalyum Sangay Choden Wangchuck inaugurated two exhibitions at the Royal Textile Academy today. Her Majesty Gyalyum Sangay Choden Wangchuck, Royal Patron of the Royal Textile Academy delivered the keynote address at the symposium titled “Cultural Sustainability in the Age of Globalization” held in Washington D.C., USA on May 12, 2016. Coinciding with the Descending Day of the Lord Buddha, Zhabdrung Phuensum Tshogpa Thongdrol of the Royal Textile Academy was consecrated yesterday by His Eminence Tsugla Lopen Rinpoche of Zhung Dratshang. Religious precious art exhibition ongoing in Thimphu

Learning the art of traditional weaving

Crafts: Instead of spending their winter holidays at home, twenty five girls are learning the art of traditional weaving, the art of yarn dyeing, contemporary skills related to design and colour combination, and are acquiring basic knowledge on business and book keeping skills.
